Business talks with entrepreneurs in the state of Minas Gerais and meetings with the business institutions in the city of Brazil

The Bulgarian business delegation accompanying the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev on his official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil (31 January – 3 February 2016) started its work programme on 1st February with meetings with businessmen from the state of Minas Gerais. 
 
Minas Gerais is a state in Southeastern Brazil and ranks as the third state by gross domestic product (GDP) among the 27 states. It is the fourth largest state by area in the country and the second most populous Brazilian state with a population of over 20 million people. The state has a central and strategic location, close to the main markets of the country. The state’s capital and largest city Belo Horizonte is crossed by the main federal highways that connect the city with the largest urban centers in Brazil and major seaports. 
 
The state manufactures large quantities of iron ore, cement, coffee and milk, automobiles, and textiles. A lot of other sectors such as mining, steel industry, electronics, food industry, production of apparel and shoes are well developed. The state has the largest concentration of biotechnological companies in the country and ranks second by number of automobile manufacturers, second by volume of production from metallurgy, as well as by number of herds of cattle. 
 
The interest in the meetings was provoked by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria to Belo Horizonte Mr. Renato Rouseff who helped organize the participation of more than 15 Brazilian businessmen working in the sectors computer technology, consultancy and legal services, mining industry, metallurgy, as well as representatives of state agencies and institutions who met the Bulgarian companies. Representatives of the local Parliament, as well as the other honorary consuls of Bulgaria in Brazil also took part in the meeting. 
 
The business community of Minas Gerais has expressed interest to visit Bulgaria in 2017. 
 
The work programme of the delegation continued with meetings with representatives of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency – APEX and the Brazilian Confederation of Trade and Business Associations – CACB. Valuable experience was exchanged and specific steps for strengthening the contacts and enhancing the bilateral and multilateral cooperation were discussed.
