BCCI hosts the second International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Sofia

For the second year the BCCI and the International Moot Court Competition Association (IMCCA) organize an international commercial arbitration moot and international trade law moot, which shall take place from 19 to 21 February at the Chamber.

Sofia Pre-Moot is a simulation of international arbitration proceedings related to the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. It is held in English and aims to allow participating universities to prepare their teams for the international competition Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. It is held annually in Vienna for the last 22 years. In its edition in 2015 almost 300 teams from over 60 countries all around the world were present. Three Bulgarian teams participated in the edition last year.

Every year, weeks before the oral rounds, preliminary competitions are organized in cities like Paris, New York, Milan, Munich and Belgrade where teams from different universities meet and advocate against each other. For the first time Sofia hosted a similar event in February-March 2015 and five teams from Bulgaria, Macedonia and Romania competed then. Testimonial to the success of the event was the fact that the teams of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the University of Skopje were distinguished a month later at the Moot in Vienna.

Eight teams have expressed their intention to participate in the competition,  including the Free University of Berlin, the University of Utrecht - The Netherlands, the universities of Skopje and Sarajevo and of course the Bulgarian universities - Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski”, and  “St. St. Cyril and Methodius" University of Veliko Turnovo.
