Idea of creating a joint Bulgarian-Moroccan Chamber of Commerce

The Ambassador of Morocco to Bulgaria H.E. Mrs. Zakia El Midaoui visited BCCI and held a meeting with the Chamber’s President Tsvetan Simeonov. The main topic of the conversation were the results of the official visit to Sofia of Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco, in September 2018, as well as the official visit of Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov to the Kingdom of Morocco last November.

Moncif Cherkaoui Jaouad, Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Morocco, Asparuh Karastoyanov, Member of BCCI’s Board of Directors, and Nourddine Riagi, businessman from Morocco, who has lived and worked  for many years in our country, also took part in the meeting.

In the focus of the meeting at the Chamber were the issues discussed and proposed by both countries during the above-mentioned high level state visits. Ambassador Midaoui and Tsvetan Simeonov noted the lack of sufficient information on the capacity and capabilities of the two economies. They commented on opportunities for Moroccan and Bulgarian companies to get acquainted with products and services from both countries, as well as to participate in exhibitions and fairs in both countries.

Specific steps were also discussed to develop the idea of establishing a joint Bulgarian -Moroccan Chamber of Commerce with the participation of business organizations and companies from both countries, and support from the diplomatic missions in Sofia and Rabat.

The process of exploring the interest of Bulgarian companies to be included in the joint Bulgarian-Moroccan business organization continues. Trade, tourism, agriculture and mechanical engineering were mentioned as some of the sectors in which the joint organization will seek more in-depth bilateral cooperation and new opportunities for economic exchange.
