For the first time in decades, we have been able to get into A Group, and we should not miss this historic chance. This, metaphorically speaking, is the thesis that united business representatives, employers, government officials, foreign guests and economists at the conference "Advantages of Bulgaria’s membership in the Eurozone."
The ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel proved to be narrow for the many who wanted to attend the event, organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Expat Capital.
It is no coincidence that in his opening remarks the President of the Chamber Tsvetan Simeonov noted: “It is a great compliment to me that so many people, who have invested energy and time for the European future of Bulgaria, support us. We have no intention of allowing the artificially created fears in the Eurozone to prevail in the Bulgarian society. We have to open our eyes every day for situations like that, but with so many allies, I am confident that this important work will find a successful end. "
Simeonov emphasized that Bulgaria has chosen its path ever since the country applied for EU membership, including joining the euro, and reminded: "Bulgarians have proved to be quite disciplined, especially in the financial sphere, and it is no coincidence that the currency board nowhere in the world has such a successful application! The Eurozone is definitely the future of Bulgaria. Of course, there may be minor difficulties, but no obstacles should be on the way for the great purpose: the single currency. For us, joining the Eurozone will be a successful conclusion of the currency board. What is more - I hope that Bulgaria will one day help the discipline become a leading principle in the Eurozone, with no deviations. Thus, the currency will be equivalent to other currencies in the world. You may consider that the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be an absolute supporter of this perspective."
Nikolay Vassilev, Managing Partner at Expat Capital, in turn formulated a thesis that the two best moments for Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone are - "now and 10 years ago". According to him, the biggest positives of the membership are that our country will be part of the EU core and the country will not be placed in the group of countries such as Northern Macedonia and Albania.
The economist Krasen Stanchev pointed out that consensus on our entry into the Eurozone already exists among the business and the major political parties, which means that the government and the BNB just have to follow, step by step, their agenda.
