The Ambassador of Bangladesh visited the BCCI

H.E. Md. Daud Ali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh (based in Bucharest), visited the BCCI and met with the President of the Chamber of Commerce Tsvetan Simeonov. Georgi Ivanov, Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Bulgaria, also took part in the meeting.

This is the first visit of the diplomat in our country, and its purpose is to intensify bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries. Ambassador Daud presented the current economic data for his country, saying that due to the crisis with the global pandemic in 2020 there is a decline of 5.2% in the economic development of the country. In 2021 growth of 7% is expected. The country ranks second in the world, after China, in the export of ready-made clothing. Bangladesh exports high quality products – shrimp, leather goods, medical products and jute products. The country needs import of fertilizers, sunflower oil and others. With interest in investing in Bangladesh, foreign investors have about 100 economically designated areas, and currently 60 are completed. The companies’ foreign investments are exempt from taxes and fees for the first 10 years.

Opportunities to import manpower from Bangladesh were among the topics discussed at the meeting. In this regard, it became clear that the Government of Bangladesh has a specialized Bureau of Employment and Training, which facilitates the hiring of workers from the country.

It was agreed at a later stage, in the autumn of this year, BCCI, together with the team of the Embassy, to organize an information event – a presentation of the economic opportunities of the country and the opportunities for import of manpower from Bangladesh to Bulgaria.

BCCI will further inform about specific joint events with partners from Bangladesh and the dates thereof.
