Unexplored opportunities to import workers

Bulgarian economy is growing, but faces a chronic shortage of skilled labor

The President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tsvetan Simeonov, held a meeting with Dr. Petar Velev, Chairman of the Indian-Bulgarian Business Chamber. The main topic of the meeting was the untapped opportunities to import labor from India.

Bulgaria's growing economy is facing a shortage of skilled labor in some sectors, such as construction, tourism, pharmaceutical industry, transport and logistics, which limit its economic growth. There is an excellent opportunity to conclude a migration and mobility partnership agreement between Bulgaria and India, which would facilitate the access of third-country nationals to the Bulgarian labor market.

By 2025, India will have one-fifth of the world's working-age population. This will make India the largest supplier of skilled labor in the world. The country is an untapped opportunity and a natural partner for Bulgaria on the topic of importing labor. Such an agreement would help mainly Bulgarian companies that are looking for qualified workers.

Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry considers it necessary to resume the process of concluding agreements for the regulation of labor migration with third countries. This will reduce red tape and speed up the hiring process.

In this regard, on 27.05.2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the building of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry / Sofia, "Iskar" street #9/, hall A, floor 1, a round table will be held on the topic "Unused opportunities for importing labor".

Within the framework of the working meeting, the possibilities for importing qualified labor, the difficulties faced by the Bulgarian business due to the lack of suitable labor, as well as the possibility for Bulgaria to sign an Agreement on Partnership for Migration and Mobility with India will be discussed.

Those wishing to participate in the meeting can pre-register at the following link by May 25, 2024 /Friday/. Participation is free.
