Bulgarian-Ecuadorian Forum at BCCI

The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a delegation from Ecuador to explore trade opportunities and strengthen bilateral relations.

At the opening of the event, BCCI President Tsvetan Simeonov stressed the need for more Ecuadorian products to enter the Bulgarian market. He also highlighted the potential for processing Ecuadorian raw materials in Bulgaria with the aim of acquiring European origin and selling them within the EU.

The Honorary Consul of Ecuador in Bulgaria, Zahari Kushev, also took part in the meeting and presented important and interesting facts about Ecuador. The business potential of Ecuador was highlighted, especially in the export of cocoa, roses, bananas and seafood, as well as its attractiveness for tourism and investment due to its strategic location, the use of the US dollar as the national currency and visa-free travel for many nationalities.

Max Coello Aguilar, Ecuador’s Trade Counselor with an office in Italy, accredited to Bulgaria, discussed Ecuador’s efforts to promote tourism and trade with Bulgaria. He noted that while Ecuador exports $121 million worth of goods to Bulgaria annually, mainly gold, bananas, cocoa and roses, Bulgaria’s exports to Ecuador are symbolic, indicating opportunities for growth. Interestingly, imports of Ecuadorian cocoa to Bulgaria increased 3.5 times in 2024 compared to 2023.

Gabriela Dimitrova, Director of International Cooperation and International Organizations at the BCCI, reviewed the economic and investment climate in Bulgaria, highlighting its strategic location, stable currency and low operating costs for companies. The demographic challenges facing Bulgaria, the growing technology sector and the attractive tax system were discussed. The rich cultural heritage and tourism potential of Bulgaria were highlighted.

Representatives of Ecuadorian companies actively participated in the event, presenting their products to potential Bulgarian partners.
