BCCI in conjunction with the Association for Development of Business and Cultural Relations between the Republic of India and the Republic of Bulgaria and together with OINORAMA Wine consulting & Business solutions are organizing a forum entitled "Bulgarian wine on the Indian market – opportunities, perspectives and financing" on 23rd February 2012, at 10.00 a.m. in BCCI Hall A.
The forum will be attended by more than 30 Bulgarian wine producers, representatives of the Indian Embassy, BEIA and the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine. Invitations were extended to four leading Indian wine importers and distributors as well as a team of the renowned Indian wine magazine SPIRITZ, managed by the chief editor Mr. Bishan Kumar, who will visit several leading Bulgarian wineries.
The forum aims to set up the business relations between Bulgarian wine producers who are encouraged to shift their attention to new and promising markets and Indian wine importers and distributors as well as to enhance the presentation of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Republic of India with an authentic Bulgarian product, such as Bulgarian wine.
The market for wine in India
The Indian market is one of the biggest in the world. In 2010, sales of wine were worth € 10 billion with a growth of 11.7% compared with 2009, this growth is expected to reach € 16 billion by 2014. 2.5 billion liters of wine as a volume of the Indian wine market were sold in 2009. By 2014, this figure will have reached 3.7 billion liters. However, we should consider the fact that the Indian market is a tough one not ready to show its full potential yet. One of the reasons is the level of taxes (which taxes for EU wines are expected to drop off in 2012), lack of knowledge on the part of consumers about wine and the inadequate infrastructure. However, consumption in the country is continuing to grow, with India ranking 10th consumer of wine on a world scale.
