The Council of Sectorial Organizations will analyze the fees charged by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency

On 17 February 2012, the General Assembly of the Council of Sectorial Organizations with BCCI adopted the Report on the activity of the Council in 2011 and the Work Programme for 2012.

A new Bureau of the Council was elected with members:
- President – Lachezar Iskrov, member of the Executive Council of BCCI responsible for the cooperation with sectorial organizations and former President of National Real Estate Association;
- Vice-Presidents – Mariana Kukusheva, President of the Federation of Bakers and Confectioners in Bulgaria and Asst. Prof. PhD Eng. Viktor Tashev, Manager of Bulgarian Association for Geotechnical and Tunnel Construction.

Representatives of the sectorial organizations in the food sector discussed the need to analyze the Tariff of fees collected by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency for issuance of various documents such as veterinary and phytosanitary certificates, certificates of quality, etc. According to them, most of the fees are unreasonably high, there is no methodology for their determination, and the criteria according to which officials are elected to conduct audits on the spot are unclear.

With regard to this, the Council adopted a resolution to form a working group which will analyze the tariff and will come up with a joint statement, which will be brought to the attention of the competent authorities.

The need to pay more attention to the problems of small and medium-sized enterprises was emphasized. SMEs constitute a significant share of Bulgarian economy and play an important role for its recovery, but a lot of them are presently at the verge of survival as a result of the economic crisis and its effects.

The President of BCCI further discussed this topic with Georg Raab, European Commission Policy Officer “Financing Innovation and SME”. The meeting was held at the Representation of the European Commission to Bulgaria.
