On 21 February 2012 at BCCI, information meeting was held to present the current status of the Israeli economy. The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov opened the meeting and said that Israel is a reliable partner of our country but there is more to be done to expand trade between the two countries. BCCI jointly with the Embassy of Israel and the Bulgarian – Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry will continue to inform Bulgarian companies interested in cooperation with Israeli partners in the field of agriculture, high technologies and other sectors of economy.
In the early 1990s trade turnover between the two countries was about USD 13 million and in 2011 it increased significantly and reached USD 314 million, said the President of the Bulgarian – Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry Peycho Lalev.
The meeting continued with a presentation by H.E. Coen of the upcoming agricultural exhibition “AGRITECH 2012”, which will take place in the period 15 – 17 May 2012 in Tel Aviv (www.agritech.org.il). The exhibition covers all areas of agriculture, such as high technologies, greenhouses, dairy processing, poultry farms, irrigation and water technologies, seeds and know-how. Israel has almost 320 sunny days a year, which is a prerequisite for well-developed agriculture. In the following months the exhibition will be presented in various parts of Bulgaria by Israeli lecturers. BCCI will provide additional information on the upcoming presentations.
With regard to the economic situation in the region, H.E. Coen said that to date Israel has overcome the world crisis. The country is very conservative in its economy and adheres to strict rules in the bank sector. State support is available for industry and export; there is also a reduction of corporate taxes. The prices are stable, the unemployment levels have decreased, export and GDP have grown. In 2010 foreign investments amounted to USD 5 billion. Research and development is blooming, the labour force is qualified with a lot of potential, centres for technological innovation and science incubators are being set up.
