BCCI successfully held Bulgarian – Chinese Business Forum

The success of Chinese investors in our country is the best advertisement for doing business in Bulgaria








 
Over 200 representatives of Bulgarian and Chinese businesses participated in the business forum organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME). The forum was organized on the occasion of the official visit of Mr. Jiang Yaopin, Deputy Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China to our country at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart, the Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Mr. Ivo Marinov. 

The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov opened the forum with a presentation of the perspective and promising cooperation with China, on the basis of already made Chinese investments in Bulgaria and the growing trade turnover between the two countries. For ten months in 2011, Bulgarian exports increased by 47% in comparison to the same period in 2010. According to Mr. Simeonov the forum sends the important message that there are opportunities for massive investments by Chinese companies in Bulgaria. Representatives of Chinese companies have expressed interest for cooperation in the following sectors: IT, electronic components, aviation, automotive industry, electronics and power engineering, etc. Among the Chinese participants in the forum, there were financial institutions offering direct assistance for conclusion of agreements between companies from the two countries. 

In his welcoming remarks Deputy Minister Marinov said that trade and economic relations with China are of utmost importance for Bulgaria. He presented briefly the successful Chinese investments already made in our country – in the automotive industry, energy, telecommunications and agriculture. According to Bulgarian National Bank data for the period 1996 – 2010, Chinese investments amounted to EUR 17.6 million. 

According to Deputy Minister Marinov priority should be given to future cooperation in the high tech sectors, automotive industry and production of automobile parts, agriculture, food industry and farming. 

Mr. Jiang Yaopin, Deputy Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China said that the country of rose oil and great wine is an important partner of China in South Eastern Europe and the Chinese government pays special attention to our country. According to him, in times of crisis businesses and business associations must maintain intensive contacts and use every possible opportunity. 

Mr. Jiang Yaopin introduced the participants in the forum to the priority sectors for China, according to the country’s 12-year social and economic development programme: new IT, bio technologies, renewable energy, high-tech equipment, automobiles powered by green energy, etc. China is also interested in infrastructure development. Mr. Yaopin invited Bulgarian companies and institutions to propose specific projects which will be discussed and implemented if interest is expressed by both parties. 

H.E. Guo Yedzhou, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bulgaria also greeted the participants in the forum. He emphasized the need of pragmatic cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries. According to him, timing is extremely suitable for expanding mutually beneficial business relations between Bulgarian and Chinese partners. He informed that the Chinese sectorial organizations monitor the development of Chinese investments in Bulgaria very closely. Their example is significant for the participants in the forum. Ambassador Yedzhou said that the success of Chinese investors in out country is the best advertisement for doing business in Bulgaria.

Mr. Wang Guiqing, Vice President of CCCME offered even greater support, lent jointly with BCCI, to companies from both countries. He insisted on active information exchange and proposed that a list of perspective bilateral projects is drawn up and their development monitored. 

Detailed presentations of the business conditions and investment opportunities in our country were made by Invest Bulgaria Agency and National Company Industrial Zones. 

The forum continued with a series of bilateral meetings and active talks.
