The World Bank continues its cooperation with the BCCI network of Chambers to reduce the administrative burden for private sector
How to improve administrative services for businesses at municipal level – that is the major question the World Bank will seek an answer to in a new report to be ready by summer. In this connection, Bank experts met with BCCI management and the regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry within BCCI‘s network. Mr. Evgeni Evgeniev, Private Sector Development Specialist at the World Bank presented the main objectives of this report.
Mr. Evgeniev briefed the chairpersons of the regional chambers about concrete steps for the preparation of the report. The World Bank’s study is based on a research among 11 major municipalities of sluggish administrative services for business circles. This is where business and administration meet most frequently. “The comparison alone of the required documents for categorization of school accommodation and entertainment in Plovdiv and Sofia showed that while 7 documents are required by the administration in the capital, 14 documents are to be obtained in Plovdiv for the same service”, said Mr. Evgeniev. The aim is working towards unification of the requirements in order for businesses to feel the same wherever they go.
The expertise of the World Bank on issues related to administrative reform is important for the business entities that are part of BCCI. Thus, the legal requirement to reduce administrative burden and to simplify the procedures relating to business will be fulfilled”, BCCI President Tsvetan Simeonov concluded and reminded again of the necessity to conduct further studies on the administrative burden for businesses in smaller communities as well.
