Tsvetan Simeonov participates in the International Conference on Green Industry Innovation in Oslo
Green technologies for 7 countries with 100 million inhabitants, including Bulgaria and Romania
Today the President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov participates in the International Conference dedicated to Green Industry Innovation, which takes place in Oslo, Norway.
The conference is part of the Green Industry Innovation Programme of the Norwegian Innovation Fund and is organized by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Innovation Norway, in cooperation with the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprises.
Seven beneficiary states are implementing the green industry and innovation programme: Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia. The programme is funded by the Norwegian Innovation Fund and has a total budget of EUR 100 million.
The main objective of the conference is to create awareness to the opportunities provided by the Norwegian Innovation Fund and to engage possible stakeholders in Norway and the beneficiary states.
In his opening remarks, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway Torgeir Larsen said that Norway’s goal is to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Europe, because the country is the fifth largest trading partner of the European Union, thus outranking India and Japan. Mr. Larsen stressed that Norway calls for strengthening of the bilateral relations with the 15 European beneficiary states of the supported donor programmes, and it is no coincidence that a priority is given to green technologies. The green technology programme is targeted at practically sustainable results for the implementing countries.
Mrs. Gunn Ovesen, CEO of Innovation Norway said that green innovation is one of the solutions of the future. The green technology programme covers 7 countries with 100 million inhabitants. Special programme offices were opened for Bulgaria and Romania. 22 projects are about to be implemented in Bulgaria with Norwegian partners – mainly in the private sector. Mrs. Ovesen shared the experience of companies that received financial support by the programme in previous periods. They expressed their gratitude for the cooperation and the achieved results. After the end of the programme in 2010, 10 % increase of Norwegian exports to Bulgaria was noted as compared to 2009.
Mr. Tore Lasse, Director Coordinator EEA funding, Innovation Norway presented the programme budget for Bulgaria, amounting to nearly EUR 14 million. Companies will be the main target group of the programme, followed by NGOs. The ultimate goal is to bring green industry closer to enterprises. Mr. Lasse explained that Norway is a champion in greening the economy, reducing production of waste and carbon emissions, and decreasing material and energy consumption.
The Green Energy Innovation Programme shall be implemented in compliance with EU Directives and the national legislation regulating public procurements. The Memorandums of Understanding signed by each individual beneficiary state will also be observed. The programme should be completed by April 2016.
The partnership projects will include study visits, business meetings, expert meetings, activities for finding partners, etc.
According to the Bulgarian representative at the conference, environmental innovation is one of Bulgaria’s goals for economic development, even though in the long run.
