Support for development of the textile and apparel sector









 


The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov took part in a conference on theme: “The cross-border region Bulgaria – Macedonia – a good place for apparel production”. The conference was held on 5 May in Kyustendil as part of the project Cross-border Cooperation Bulgaria – Macedonia, implemented by the Branch Organization for Textiles and Clothing (BOTC) in cooperation with the Commercial Textile Association – Textile Cluster Stip and Kyustendil Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

An in-depth analysis of the strategy for development of the textile and apparel sector in the cross-border region was presented. Tsvetan Simeonov recognized as a positive signal the fact that both Bulgarian organizations – the Bulgarian Association of Apparel and Textile Producers and Exporters (BAATPE) and the Branch Organization for Textiles and Clothing (BOTC) were present at the meeting, and discussed with partners from Stip opportunities for development of companies from the sector in the two countries. Apparel production comprises around 5% of the country’s industrial production and generates nearly 8% of the added value in industry, according to data of the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism and the National Statistical Institute. 

The question of joining efforts to organize the exhibition of manufacturers from the sector which has been postponed for two years was raised. Opportunities and perspectives for development and strengthening of positions on the domestic and European market of the companies from the sector were discussed.
