45 representatives of the medium and large business in Bulgaria and BAS scientists participated in the round table discussion of the Innovation Council with BCCI
At the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a round table discussion was held on the initiative of the Innovation Council with BCCI and Enterprise Europe Network.
The meeting was dedicated to discussing the role of business and science for planning funding for modernization of Bulgarian industry and implementation of innovations in the following Programming Period of the European Union 2014 – 2020. The highlights of the National Strategic Reference Framework 2014 - 2020 and the Convergence Programme 2011 – 2014 were discussed.
45 representatives of the medium and large business in Bulgaria, scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), representatives of universities and public officials discussed the following topics:
•Simplification of the application forms for EU projects
•The role of banks in the evaluation of EU projects
•Merging the National Innovation Fund and the Scientific Research Fund
•Establishing a single state body to be in charge of science, innovation and technology
The round table discussion was opened by the President of BCCI Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, who stressed the need to significantly increase state funding for science and innovation, and to synchronize the work of Bulgarian scientists and universities with the needs of business, as well as the possibility of co-financing of scientific research by the business. BCCI will continue to support the work of the Innovation Council, whose expertise is an important source of valuable information to the Chamber when it comes to the relationship between science and business.
A welcoming address on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism was read by Mrs. Emiliya Radeva, Head of Department “Innovation and Investments”.
Key speakers were Mr. Yosif Avramov, Co-Chair of the Innovation Council with BCCI and member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber, Mrs. Olga Chugunska, Economic Expert at BCCI, Mr. Biser Ivanov, Member of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Association of Software Companies (BASSCOM) and Executive Director of „Software AG Development Center Bulgaria” Ltd. and Prof. Kostadin Kostadinov, Scientific Secretary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
BCCI will summarize the opinions and proposals of the participants and will send them to the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism and the Minister of EU Funds Management for consideration.
