BCCI participates in the General Assembly of GS1 in Cartagena, Colombia
The regular General Assembly of the International Organization GS1 began on 21 May in Cartagena, Colombia. The event is hosted by GS1 Colombia.
The General Assembly has an important role in the management and control of GS1’s activity and for the determination of its future work in various strategic spheres. Top representatives of industry and managers of large multinational companies from over 70 countries participate in the General Assembly alongside the representatives of the national organizations GS1. The General Assembly is the largest platform for managerial cooperation within GS1.
During today’s plenary sessions important topics will be discussed concerning the various strategic developements of the GS1 standards. Global innovative B2C (Business to Customer) trends will be presented. Moderators from the national organizations of Switzerland, Brazil, China, India and South Africa will discuss opportunities for companies to kick-off initiatives enabling developing countries to improve their competitiveness in the global market. In the second part of the session, top executives from Latin America will share experience in growing their business and how GS1 can support this process. At the end of the day, the GS1 President & CEO Miguel Lopera will summarize the strategic proposals made by the National Assembly.
At tomorrow’s session, the financial report for 2010-2011 will be reviewed, followed by a report of the Committee developing the GS1 principles and architecture. Nominees for new members of the GS1 Board will be considered, including representatives of Kraft Foods and DHL. Results of various key initiatives will be presented, such as:
•Data quality;
•B2C/ reliability of data;
•Application of GS1 standards in healthcare;
•Electronic tracking of goods with RFID/EPC;
•Description and use of GLN (General Location Numbers).
A key element of the agenda is to determine the business strategy for 2012-2013.
GS1 Bulgaria is represented at the General Assembly by Mr. Christo Sodev, Executive Secretary of the GS1 Bulgaria Council with BCCI.
