In Geneva employers recommended new jobs to be created for young people

Employers consider youth unemployment a global problem which requires immediate action. It was ascertained that in the last 4 years the number of young unemployed people grew by 4 million, reaching a total of over 75 million. The International Labour Conference (ILC) arrived at those conclusions for 2012 during its 101st session, which ended in Geneva.

The world confronts the threat of a severe crisis unless immediate and vigorous action is taken to increase youth employment and reduce unemployment.
The representatives of Bulgarian employers supported the proposed measures for solving this problem, the most important of which include:
- creating balanced macroeconomic policies that encourage employers to invest in and create new jobs for young people;
- developing sustainable financial models that pose no risk of deepening the economic hardships faced by the respective country;
- focus on education – it was established that more than 130 million young people are without primary education – cannon read, write and count;
- promoting and encouraging youth entrepreneurship, which the BCCI does constantly;
- considering the private sector the main engine of job creation for young people;
- promoting and creating conditions for young people to acquire working experience through internships and apprenticeships.

The following specific measures were proposed to be taken by employers’ organizations:
- in cooperation with local governments to promote and encourage youth entrepreneurship;
- jointly with the governments to participate in the development of special entrepreneurship training programmes for young people;
- help improve the conditions and access to financing for young people that wish to start their own business;
- create opportunities for the establishment and functioning of youth business networks within the employers’ organizations.

The Secretary General of BCCI Vasil Todorov presented a report on behalf of Bulgarian employers before the participants in the 101st regular session of the ILC. In his speech Mr. Todorov also emphasized the problem of youth unemployment and the measures proposed by Bulgarian organizations of employers for creating jobs for young people.
