Over the period from 14th to 17th June 2012 the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in the partners’ workshop of the "SAGITTARIUS" project in Venice - Italy. The project is implemented under the Southeastern Europe Programme and includes 19 organizations from 8 countries. The main objective is to promote tourism development through the use of cultural heritage.
The project partners discussed the issues connected with making an advertising film for the project that will depict the participating countries from Southeastern Europe as attractive tourist destinations and the forthcoming implementation of the "Exhibition on Wheels" in Bulgaria, Greece and Italy.
The project was selected as "best practice" by the Technical Committee of the Programme in terms of innovative approaches to promoting cultural heritage in Southeastern Europe. The partnership team prepares a project film which will be demonstrated on 28th June 2012 in Bologna during the annual conference of the Programme.
The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is coordinating the project activities pertinent to the final form and sound of the film, shape of the concept, and provision of the materials and organization of the first "Exhibition on Wheels" in Sofia in September 2013.
The Agency for Development of Sofia will join the project as an associate member, which will be essential both for the project as well as for Sofia.
During the meeting in Venice the partners got acquainted with the Italian experience related to the management of cultural heritage and its importance for tourism development. It was no chance that Venice was chosen as a historical landmark for getting acquainted with the management of the historical heritage. Even when the historical monuments are unique and have little need for advertising and promotion, even in such cases it is necessary to overcome some negatives from the excessive popularity of the attractions such as pollution, erosion, a great number of transient visitors, cruise visitors etc.
