A team composed of three of BCCI’s experts – Stefan Kostadinov, Lyubomir Danov and Lyubomir Gaydarov participated in the second Pétanque tournament organized by the French – Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 40 teams of 3 members participated in the competition which took place on 23 June 2012, in the Doctor’s Garden in Sofia, behind the National Library.
Representatives of French companies working in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the German – Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and several teams of the French Embassy competed in the tournament.
The tournament took part in several rounds, the final stages of the event held in the afternoon. The guests of the event were able to get acquainted to the new models of Citroen, Renault and Peugeot.
Pétanque is a game with very old history and traditions. It originated in France in the early 20th century, deriving from an ancient Provencal amusement which dates back to the 8th – 9th century. Nowadays the game is a national sport in France and is very popular in Belgium, the Netherlands and other European countries, as well as in the former French colonies.
In Bulgaria the game became popular in 2000. The first Pétanque tournament was held last year in the yard of the French Embassy.
