Green Day Forum in search of “green” formula for growth of Bulgarian business

Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, President of BCCI opened and moderated the first panel of the Green Day Forum, organized by b2b Media

“Green economy” is a means of overcoming economic uncertainty and ensuring sustainable growth, and forums such as “Greenest Companies of 2011” are a means to successfully counteract to the economic crisis”, the President of BCCI said in his opening speech to Green Day Forum organized by b2b Media. Mr. Simeonov was moderator of the first panel discussion.

BCCI asked the first question to Ministers Nona Karadzhova and Tomislav Donchev: “How should the business behave until all companies have turned “green”, how to draw up laws and regulations in such a way that companies which invest in green technologies to be protected from unfair competition and the imports of goods which waste energy and are not environmentally friendly?”.

No economic growth is possible except from “green” growth, Bulgarian Minister of EU Funds Management Tomislav Donchev said. The main question is not if, but how to achieve “green growth” in economy. It is disturbing though that green economy is considered a luxury and something which prevents us from growing. Though public funding of green projects is an important stimulus, but we must not forget that its primary aim is to encourage the private sector to fund similar policies as well. A “green public procurement” scheme is already underway to encourage the state to implement more green projects.

During the discussion with the participants, Minister Nona Karadzhova emphasized that companies which comply with the minimum legal requirements in relation to environment and natural resources preservation need to be supported. Green business is the formula which will allow Bulgarian companies to be more competitive, sustainable and to remain on the market.

The forum was practically orientated – presentations on energy efficiency of buildings and funding schemes for green projects were made, and the experience of Norway and Great Britain, whose Ambassadors H.E. Tove Skarstein and H.E. Jonathan Allen also took part in the event, was shared.

The President of BCCI Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov presented the awards in category “Automotive Industry, Transport and Telecommunications”. The first place went to “FullCharger Bulgaria”, which is part of a network of charging stations for electric cars.

The award “Green Person of 2011” was granted to Mr. Krasimir Dachev, Member of the Board of Directors of the BCCI.
