BCCI took part in the discussion of the results of the announced procedures for provision of financial aid under the operational programmes

Decreasing the administrative burden in the take-up of resources has long been one of the Chamber’s main proposals

The President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov and Chamber experts took part in the meeting held in the Council of Ministers to present the results of the analysis and assessment of the procedures for provision of financial aid under the seven operational programmes, and of the criteria used in the selection of project proposals.

The system of seven operational programmes and accompanying procedures, co-financed by the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund of the European Union in Bulgaria is successful and has had positive results, thus covering the country’s expenses in priority areas. This became clear during the public presentation of the results of the external audit of the procedures for provision of financial aid for 2007 – 2013 programming period.

The results of the analysis were presented by Mr. Mihalis Nikitaridis, leader of the team that prepared the assessment, in the presence of the Minister of EU Funds Management Tomislav Donchev and the Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski.

Minister Tomislav Donchev emphasized the need during the next programming period to focus our efforts not only on the level of absorption of EU funds, but on the results achieved due to the financing, as well as to what extent the absorbed funds helped achieved the outlined goals and whether they were allocated right.

Minister Moskovski briefly presented the progress achieved under the Operational Programme on Transport in the past two years.

Minister Donchev gave the EU programmes work a “good” mark and stressed that the assessment has improved, but there is still a lot to do. He noted the need to decrease the administrative burden in the take-up of funds. The idea was widely supported by the audience. In several of its position-papers, BCCI has expressed the same view as one of the main means for optimizing the EU funds absorption process.
