Within the framework of the annual meetings of our overseas commercial councilors with the Bulgarian business community, Galina Laleva, head of the Economic and Commercial Service Office /ECSO/ based in Berlin, visited BCCI and had a discussion with the Chamber’s President. A wide range of issues related to bilateral trade, investments and tourism in the context of the economic situation in the EU were given due attention.
A reference was made with regard to the very strong foundations of the cooperation and the role of the chambers of commerce in both countries for their consolidation. Upcoming initiatives for networking between potential partners were also discussed.
Germany is a leading foreign trade partner of Bulgaria. Export to Germany accounts for 11.93% of total export in 2011 (1st place) while import from Germany accounts for 10.99% of total import (2nd place after Russia).
Commodity turnover in 2011 grew by 27.8% (MEET data).
In spite of this positive trend untapped potential in bilateral trade was noted to still exist.
