Meeting of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council with BCCI









 
The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the meeting of the Club of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council with BCCI. The meeting was moderated by Georgi Stoev, Vice-President of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council and the BCCI. Members of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council took part in the meeting – Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Ivo Marinov, H.E. Makoto Ito, Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria and the President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov. 

The achievements of the Council in the period 2009 to 2012 were reviewed. The Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council works to expand and further the macroeconomic relations between Bulgaria and Japan. 


In his welcoming address Georgi Stoev said that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council. The official celebration will take place in Tokyo in December. A conference on the safety of nuclear power plants will also be organized. Mr. Stoev thanked the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism for its excellent cooperation and especially emphasized the negotiaions for free trade between Bulgaria and Japan which were renewed earlier this month. 

During the meeting the agenda for the activity of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council in 2012 was adopted. Some of the main activities are related to the preparation and participation in the anniversary celebration, meeting with Japanese companies in order to expand the economic relations between the two countries. Supporting and participating in the negotiations for free trade between Japan and Bulgaria will also be among the Council’s priorities. 
Tsvetan Simeonov evaluated positively the efforts of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council for the promotion of the economic relations between the two countries. 

Deputy Minister Ivo Marinov said that Japan is an important partner for our country because some of the largest Japanese corporations have already invested in Bulgaria. 

Bulgarian Minister of Economy Delyan Dobrev was unanimously elected as Honorary President of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council by all members of the Board of Directors. 

H.E. Makoto Ito congratulated Delyan Dobrev with his appointment as President of the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council. The Ambassador hopes that significant meetings will be organized for businesses from the two countries and for expanding the economic relations between Bulgaria and Japan. He emphasized that the economic relations between the two countries are still not fully utilized and should be intensified. H.E. Makoto Ito said that the Embassy will continue its collaboration with the Bulgarian – Japanese Economic Council with BCCI.
