The price freeze of staple goods rather instills an undeserved negative attitude towards the large food store chains, but we mustn’t forget that due to them many of our products reach other markets worldwide, said the President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tsvetan Simeonov in an interview for the programme “Neshto poveche” of “Horizont” radio.
According to him, the competitive environment “is the one that determines the price levels of goods”. Entrepreneurs know that when production increases, the levels of employment and respect will also grow.

Mr. Simeonov explained that he had no doubts about the future of BCCI in the tripartite dialogue while he was waiting for the decision of the Constitutional Court and added: “Unfortunately, in Bulgaria the Governments, whichever they are, are still too imprudent not to listen to other opinions, and that is important.”

The Chamber, from the position of and having the confidence of the oldest organizations of entrepreneurs in Bulgaria after the liberation, has never ceased to look for positive examples of the entrepreneurial spirit of Bulgarians in history. “Our experts discovered that an Association of Grocers, founded in 1812, existed, which was evidenced by documents of which we have a hold. The Association was called “Three Saints”, had an icon (shown on photo above), which is preserved until now in the “Sveta Nedelya” Cathedral in Sofia. They had an extremely important role, sold goods on credit, financed schools and often the revolutionary activity. Between the two World Wars they sacrificed their own interest and decided in an organized manner to increase the granted credits.”
BCCI will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Association of Grocers, which is the first trade association in Bulgaria.

The President of BCCI emphasized that the Chamber approves the idea of increasing pensions, but not the idea of turning society against the chains of stores and freezing the prices. According to him, this is inadmissible and contradicts the market principles.
