There is untapped potential for trade between Bulgarian and New Zealand

The Consul-General of New Zealand in Milan and Trade Commissioner for Italy and Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria – Clare Wilson visited the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and met with President Tsvetan Simeonov.

During the meeting it was noted that trade turnover between Bulgaria and New Zealand is very modest and in 2011 amounted to USD 9 million. At present, the trade balance is in favour of Bulgaria mainly due to last year’s sharp increase in the export of detergents and washing products, sheet iron and copper sheets, as well as to the doubling in the value of exported cheese and curds and animal feed preparations. According to Mr. Simeonov there is untapped potential in bilateral trade.

Ms. Wilson presented her country’s achievements in the agricultural sector, especially in cattle-breeding and meat processing.

The country has achieved remarkable success in optimizing agricultural production, introducing new technologies in the sector and achieving high efficiency. New Zealand can also offer extensive experience and expertise in agro business and high-quality products such as meat, furs, wool, wine and other products. The country has significant experience in the field of ship and yacht building, production of medical equipment, IT for healthcare, etc.

The President of BCCI informed the Consul-General of New Zealand about the current economic situation in our country and presented opportunities for business. The parties agreed to hold additional meetings and to organize a business event dedicated to New Zealand in order to promote bilateral trade.
