Mr. Abdulla briefly presented the activity of the Importers and Exporters Union of Kurdistan Region, Iraq which unites members from the four largest cities in Iraqi Kurdistan. The Union issues licenses needed by foreign entrepreneurs to import and export goods from the region of Iraqi Kurdistan and works closely with the Ministry of Trade of Iraq to promote and expand the country’s foreign economic ties. There is interest in intensifying cooperation with Bulgaria.
The Union maintains excellent relations with all chambers of commerce in the region. In Erbil, for example, 24 consular offices of European countries have been opened so far. Mr. Abdulla informed about two Bulgaria companies which, with the assistance of the Union, work successfully in the field of cosmetics and dairy products in the region.
Gratitude was expressed to the Iraqi guests for the help they provided for the organization of the visit of a business delegation to the region of Iraqi Kurdistan earlier this year. The start of the business visits to both countries was given with the first Bulgarian meetings of the Director of the Association for Friendship Kurdistan – Bulgaria Mr. Taha at BCCI.
A proposal was made to the guests to organize an exhibition of Iraqi manufacturers next year in Sofia with the assistance of BCCI.
