Business forum with the participation of a Jordan delegation at BCCI









 

BCCI hosted a Bulgarian-Jordanian business forum. The event is organized jointly with the Jordanian Business Development Corporation /JEDCO / and the Bulgarian- Jordanian Chamber of Economic Cooperation and is a part of the mission of JEDCO to get acquainted with the food sector in Bulgaria and Romania.
 
The forum was opened by Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, BCCI President. He welcomed the guests, thanked for their interest and said that Jordanian traders had big ambitions for development and have a lot of contacts. BCCI expressed its readiness to assist the development of these contacts and the possibility to promote dialogue with the government, if necessary. Mr. Raid Al-khatib, director from JEDCO greeted the attendees and thanked BCCI for the organization of the forum. Jordanian Business Development Corporation supports the exploratory tour of the representatives of Jordanian business in Bulgaria. Mr. Raid Al-khatib presented a brief presentation about Jordan – fundamental economic indicators as well as key sectors for development in the relations between Bulgaria and Jordan besides the food industry – namely transportation, tourism, pharmaceuticals and information technologies.
 
Dr. Hassan Al-Barmawi - Honorary Consul of Jordan in Bulgaria and Chairman of the Bulgarian - Jordan Chamber of Economic Cooperation also greeted the participants and wished them constructive and successful work. He stressed the leading role of Jordan in food production, exports of phosphates and that the country is a number one importer of fruit and vegetables in Europe.
 
The event continued with presentations by the guest - speakers at the forum. Mr. Iliya Dekov, Senior expert at the Foreign Economic Policy Directorate at the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism, presented the trade and economic relations between Bulgaria and Jordan and stressed that there was a growing interest in strengthening the cooperation between the two countries. Mr. Dekov presented a lot of advantages of Bulgaria, which make the country attractive for foreign investments - favourable geographic location, low tax rates, major transport corridors passing through Bulgaria. The leading goods imported from Jordan were given due attention: calcium phosphates, fresh fruit and vegetables. The following goods dominate in the export to Jordan: paper, paperboard, tractors, grain and meat. Bulgarian engineering organizations have traditional presence in the Jordanian market.
 
Ms. Mariana Marinova - Head of Strategic Planning Directorate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food introduced the characteristics of the agricultural sector in Bulgaria. She presented the trends in the development of the industry, statistics and characteristics of the local market as well as the exchange of goods in the food sector between Bulgaria and Jordan.
 
Dr. Valeria Ermenkova from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency provided information on the features and requirements of the local market of foodstuffs - a control method, criteria for entry on the Bulgarian market, quality requirements.
 
Upon acquainting themselves with the characteristics of the food industry and agricultural sectors in Bulgaria the participants had the opportunity to participate in pre-arranged bilateral meetings. About forty companies utilized the opportunity to find new partners.
 
The representatives of the Jordanian delegation visited the Inter Food and Drink exhibition in the Inter Expo Center on the following day.
