Radion Popov, former Deputy Foreign Minister, for whose appointment as Bulgaria's first ever Ambassador to Saudi Arabia the former Stanishev government issued a decree, also attended the meeting. Despite the decree Bulgaria still has not opened an embassy in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at the founding meeting of the new business council, Popov said that Bulgaria is "in serious need" an embassy in Saudi Arabia, no matter who gets to head it.
The BCCI announced that Saleh al Gamdi, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Greece, has also supported the initiative, and has confirmed that he will take part in the next meeting of the Bulgarian-Saudi Business Council.
The BCCI says the Council is designed to encourage and support the activities of all economic and non-profit organizations wishing to work for the development of the bilateral commercial and economic ties.
