BCCI Euroclub Meeting with Regard to the Assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union

On 10th January 2011, at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a meeting of the BCCI Euroclub was held with regard to the assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union by the Republic of Hungary as of 1st January 2011.
Expressing his opinion that the Hungarian Presidency is beginning in a difficult period for the European Union, Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov – President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, gave the floor to H.E. Mrs. Judith Lang, Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to Bulgaria to present the Hungarian priorities.
Mrs. Lang introduced the participants to the key areas of the Hungarian Presidency, namely:
•Providing growth and employment in order to preserve the European social model, through assistance of the SMEs in the Union.
•Developing common policies in the field of agriculture, energy production and water sources, with an emphasis on the Danube Transnational Strategy.
•Further implementation of the Stockholm Programme, expanding the Schengen area with the accession of Bulgaria and Romania, and preservation of the common European values in the Union for the sake of its citizens’ interests.
•Assisting Croatia in its accession negotiations, continuing the accession negotiations with Turkey and continuing the integration process of the Western Balkans.
The Hungarian Presidency will pay special attention on the innovation policy and will continue what the previous Belgian Presidency had started in the field of intellectual property and science research financing.
The participants were especially interested in the address of Mr. Tomislav Donchev, Minister of EU Funds Management, who underlined the need of better coordination and stronger public support for the EU integration policy. Minister Donchev pointed out that the business needs clears signals and forecasting in various spheres.
BCCI President Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov also discussed EU integration. Мore information about this problem must be provided to the wide Bulgarian public. The society must be presented with comprehensible and timely information about the legislative changes which Brussels prepares, Mr. Simeonov pointed out.
Mr. Kristofor Pavlov, Chief economist of UniCredit Bulbank paid special attention to the fact that the Bulgarian economy successfully adapted itself to the external shocks that it had to face, and at the moment there are better growth perspectives, the public finances remain stable and the absorption of EU funds is gathering pace.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors, economic counselors and commercial representatives of the member-states, the candidate-states and the associated states of the European Union, representatives of the state and municipal administration, Branch Organisations, members of the Management Board of the BCCI, entrepreneurs and the media.
