The annual GS1 Global Forum started in Brussels. This year’s theme is “Positioning GS1 for the Future Value Chain”. 525 participants from 85 National GS1 organisations will take part in the forum.
The idea is to share the results achieved in the system and to outline a future action plan, which will guarantee that the GS1 standards, services and solutions will respond better to the customers’ needs.
This year’s key themes are related to the progress in consumer goods marking, transport and logistics. Special attention is paid to the tracking of medicines and healthcare products.
The forum was opened by Mr. Miguel Lopera, President of the International Organization GS1, who presented GS1’s vision for the following years. The progress in the main directions transport and logistics, healthcare, the global data synchronization network GDSN, etc. was reviewed.
GS1 Bulgaria works in all directions. During the past year round tables were held with representatives of the retailers and their suppliers about the perspectives for joining GDSN. GS1 Bulgaria promoted the methods for tracking medical products in Bulgaria and presented specialized brochures on healthcare.
Within the Global Forum a session of the Presidents and the CEOs of the national GS1 organisations will be held, as well as Regional Forums for Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the Mediterranean region.
A 5-member-delegation of GS1 Bulgaria participates in the Forum – Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, BCCI President and Chairman of the Management Board of GS1 Bulgaria, the members of the GS1 Bulgaria Management Board – Mr. Petev Velev and Mr. Chavdar Selveliev, Mr. Christo Sodev, CEO and Ms. Leila Ismailova, Expert.
After they get acquainted with the leading achievements in the field of logistics and the perspectives for the Customs administrations worldwide, GS1 Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will request meetings at the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport, in order to present the suggestions that the Forum will come up with.

Bulgaria has been a member of GS1 (former EAN International) since 1991. According to the membership rules of the International organization GS1, the countries are represented by non-government, not-for-profit organizations, representing the interests of manufacturers and retailers. The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the official representative of GS1 for Bulgaria. The activities on implementing, developing and control on application of the GS1 standards at national level are performed by GS1 Bulgaria (former EAN Bulgaria) – Council with the BCCI.
