On 8th March 2011, at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a meeting was held between Mr. Georgi Stoev, BCCI Vice Presedent and Mr. Shunsuke Sakuma, representative of the Japanese company SANIX. The meeting was initiated by the Japanese company and Mr. Fokumori, Commercial Counselor at the Embassy of Japan to Bulgaria.
SANIX INCORPORATED is a holding company, which owns businesses in the following areas: production of spirits – sake, trade in wines and spirits, production of household sanitary products, production of articles from silicon and other silicates. The company is interested mainly in importing Bulgarian wines for consumption in restaurants and sushi bars, as well as for the final consumers. Besides, the company would like to import sake to Bulgaria.
Mr. Stoev said that the quality and prices of Bulgarian wines make them competitive to many world known brands and a lot of Bulgarian winemakers can offer products with very high-quality. With regard to this, the manager of the small winery “Pesen”, located in the village of Pesnopoi in the Plovdiv region, took part in the meeting. He made an actual offer to the Japanese company.
Mr. Sakuma said that he had already held several meetings with Bulgarian wine producers and the only thing left for the Japanese company was, after the appropriate tasting, to evaluate the products and choose which ones it would like to import from Bulgaria.
Mr. Stoev explained, that researches show an increase in the consumption of the so-called “white” spirits (vodka, gin, sake, etc.) in Bulgaria during the past several years, with small variations depending on the season. Therefore, there is potential for the import of sake from Japan. In this respect, the representative of SANIX has organized meetings with Bulgarian spirits distributors.
