The Minister of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan Visited BCCI

In order for a business council at chamber level to function, a critical mass of companies with mutual interest is needed

The President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov and companies, members of the Chamber, met with the Minister of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan, Mr. B. Hodzhamammedov and a Turkmen government delegation, which visited Bulgaria on the occasion of the first session of the Bulgaria-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation.
Mr. Simeonov welcomed the delegation and presented the activities and initiatives of BCCI, as the biggest business and employers’ organization. He said that the results from the visit of Bulgarian companies to Turkmenistan in 2008, as part of an official visit of the Bulgarian President, were promising, but the trade between the two countries doesn’t rise up to the expectations and opportunities. To that moment, only two companies with Turkmen participation have been registered with the BCCI. Joint projects have been discussed, but only few of them are being realized.
Mr. Hodzhamammedov raised the question of creating a business council at chamber level between the two countries. BCCI President supported the idea, but he noted that in order for such a council to function, a critical mass of companies with mutual interest in bilateral cooperation will be needed.
The Minister of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan outlined the following sectors of interest for bilateral contacts: construction, tourism, agriculture, transport, food and drink industry, products and machine building. With regard to this, the BCCI’s members which took part in the meeting made direct proposals to the Turkmen side.
