The New Ambassador of Turkey Visited BCCI

On March 30th, 2011 the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bulgaria, H.E. Ismail Aramaz visited the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and met with its President, Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov. The Commercial Counselor of the Turkish Embassy in Sofia, Zafer Soylu also took part in the meeting.
Mr. Simeonov presented the activity of the BCCI and discussed with Ambassador Aramaz topical issues concerning the bilateral economic relations. The guest enquired why Turkish companies often look for and export by themselves Bulgarian goods to Turkey such as sunflower, sunflower oil, lamb, etc. Mr. Simeonov explained that this is normal given the fact that there are several thousand Turkish companies registered in Bulgaria.
The parties reached consensus on the joint efforts to improve the conditions for bilateral trade between Bulgaria and Turkey, the removal of non-tariff barriers, the facilitated awarding of visas to Turkish businessmen, and discussed the possibility for joint customs check-ups on the Turkish-Bulgarian border.
His Excellency said that Bulgaria shouldn't commit to the EU as a sole trade partner, but should also keep and improve its relations with the neighbouring states and explore other traditional markets.
H.E. Ismail Aramaz informed about the construction of a high-speed railway in Turkey, which should connect the Turkish-Bulgarian border with the Armenian border, Ankara and Konya by 2014. It will be extremely convenient to transport goods which are currently being delivered by truck in an easterly-westerly direction and backwards.
At the end of the meeting the participants confirmed their desire for the cooperation between the BCCI, the Embassy of Turkey, the Turkish-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Turkish partners to continue.
