HASKOVO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY

Haskovo is the biggest town and throughout the years it has affirmed itself as a center of the region. Dimitrovgrad, the next town in size in the region, is only 12 km away from Haskovo. The two of them form a specific agglomeration, where 90% of the total number of industrial enterprises of the region are situated. The other towns in the region are Harmanli, Svilengrad, Ivailovgrad, Lubimetz, Madjarovo, Simeonovgrad, Mineral Baths, Stambolovo.

The main industrial sectors, in which the region has comparative advantages are the following:

CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Neochim PLC, Dimitrovgrad is a typical representative of this branch not only for the region, but also for the whole country. A number of organic and inorganic chemicals products are produced here, such as: ammonium nitrate, ammonia, sodium nitrate, formalin, sal volatile, etc. The fertilizer production fully meets the needs of the agricultural sector of the country, some of the production is exported, too.

MACHINE BUILDING

DONIDO Ltd. Company has also made a good name on the market in the recent years. It specializes in the production of milk processing equipment. Its products are successfully exported to the ex – USSR republics, Europe, Asia and Africa.

There is Association of Manufacturers of Machines for Food and Tobacco Industry registered in the town.

Most of the producers in this field are its members: Rodina PLC, PIM PLC, Donido PLC, IBI PLC, Maxon PLC, Ronis PLC, ZMM PLC, Hydroplastform PLC, Trakia Commerce PLC, Prim PLC, Mlada gvardia PLC.

HYDRAULIC AND PNEUMATIC MACHINE PRODUCTION

This is another important branch of the machine building industry.

Himmash PLC is one of the biggest companies in Bulgaria specialized in engineering in chemical industry. The company produces boilers, tanks and other appliances. The main consumer of these products in Bulgaria is Neftochim PLC – a petrol – chemical plant in Bourgas. Some of the production goes for export.

Multipurpose machines for automated flow lines and modules are produced in the machine building plant “ZMM”, Haskovo.

LIGHT INDUSTRY

The main textile companies in the region are:

Manuela PLC in Haskovo producing about 2.300 tones of yarn and 6.300 mt. of fabrics. About 60% of the fabrics are exported.

Svila PLC, Haskovo produces 86% of the national output of row silk. Haskovo district is the only place in Bulgaria, where natural silk is produced. Because of there extreme sensitivity to polluted environment silkworms have disappeared in many countries.

Mir PLC, Haskovo is one of the biggest shirt-sewing factories in Bulgaria. Shirts are also made in many sewing enterprises all over the region.

WOOD-PROCESSING AND FURNITURE INDUSTRIES

A great variety of different types of furniture is offered by Buckelon PLC. Additionally it also produces furniture for kindergartens.

AGRICULTURE, FOOD AND TOBACCO INDUSTRY

It is one of the most important sectors of the economy. Agriculture is well-developed within the region as there are good prerequisites for the establishment of food processing industries.

Astika PLC brewery is among the largest companies in the region. It is the biggest privatized production unit here. Astika produces premium lager which is the Bulgarian premium beer brand. Privatization gave possibilities for a new investment program, aimed at further expansion of production.

The region is specialized in meat-processing and milk production as well. Some of the most famous Bulgarian wines are also produced here.

Haskovo-BT PLC, the biggest branch of the state tobacco monopoly Bulgartabak Holding is situated in Haskovo. Its ambit includes purchasing, industrial processing, and manufacturing of tobacco for trade and export; production, trade and export of cigarettes; filter production; exports of tobacco and cigarettes.

TOURISM

Aidatour PLC, Haskovo is the biggest tour-operator in the region. Aidatour tourist facilities are situated along the E-80 International highway, connecting Western Europe with the Middle East.

More than 5000 private companies are registered in Haskovo and more than 50% of them are registered as members of HCCI.

EDUCATION

In Haskovo there is faculty of the University for National and World Economy, Sofia and a branch of the “Paisii Hilendarski” University, Plovdiv.
